Summer Trip (Final Part - Prague I'm in Love)

Prague, the capital and largest city of Czech Republic. It's also the historical capital of Bohemian proper. Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava river, the city is home to about 1.3 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of nearly 2 million. The city has a temperate oceanic climate, with warm summers and chilly winters. Not much people know about Prague, that's why they questioned me why I would go to Prague all by myself, well after this post I'm sure you will love Prague as much as I do.

Day 16 - Finally Prague
After a sleepless night at Milan Airport, and a morning flight to Prague. I finally arrived in Prague, one of my favorite city in Europe.  Oh yeah, you don't have to change the currency (EUR to CZK) at the airport, you can just use the ATM, and take money from there (It's cheaper considering the fee they asked in airport). But since I didn't know it before I get a pretty good rate at Milan airport and got myself 24CZK/1EUR. I only translate 100EUR, so I got myself around 2400czk. Arrived in the afternoon, I immediately go to the tourist information, to get the ticket for the bus that brings me to the city, the ticket cost 32czk (1euro=25czk) and it's valid for 90 minutes, which is enough to bring me to the city. I take the 119 bus until the last stop (Dejvická) and take Metro (Line A stop at mustek and transfer to Line B and stop at Karlovo Namesti) to get to the Hostel. I stayed in St. Christophers at The Mosaic House, a hostel near the heart of Prague. This is definitely the best hostel I've stayed in, I got the 26 female dorm with ensuite bathroom. If you stayed in the hostel you will get discount for food and drink at the Belushi's bar, inside the hostel. I paid 13EUR/night. Tired and sleepy, I dragged myself out the room to buy some food for lunch. After got myself some sandwich for only 18czk, a bottle of water and some bread for tomorrow's lunch and some meat.. I think in total I only spent around 60czk.
Walking through the city my eyes pampered by beautiful buildings and for some reason I really like the environment here. I think my camera also agree with me, that he's also tired, so he decided to give up on me (again!!!!) and force me back to the hostel to get some nap.

Voices of girls talking woke me up from my sleep. It was 9pm, I guess I overslept. There I met Maria, a girl from Brazil, soon to be my buddy trip in Prague. She wants to see the Charles Bridge at night, and I think it's a good idea so I came with her. Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas. This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge (Kamenný most) or the Prague Bridge (Pražský most) but has been the "Charles Bridge" since 1870. It's kinda hard to take pictures, because the bridge was so packed with people.

After tired of walking through the bridge, we went back starving to the hostel, and get ourselves some Pita Bread at Turkish restaurant in front of our hostel, for only 70czk with drinks

Day 17 - Prague Castle and Old Town
Wake up quite early in the morning to start exploring the city, my plan for today is to go to Prague Castle, so I packed some sandwich and water for lunch, and start walking to the castle. It only took around 45 minutes of walking including taking pictures and move at my own pace. My eyes were pampered by the beauty of the city, to get into the castle you have to pay 250czk and if you want to take picture you have to pay extra 50czk for the license. With the 250czk ticket you will get to visit St. Vitus Cathedral, Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, and Golden Lane (Small houses next to the castle where all the guards or employee of the castle used to live with Daliborka Tower. Some people said it's not worth it to pay to get in the castle, but my personal opinion it was quite worth it, you can see the old royal palace with all the furniture and old stuff, also the beautiful paintings that tell story about prague (you're not allowed to take pictures here), the golden lane, and you can even see the prison with the chain, etc.
I was lucky enough to get to the castle when the changing of the guard happened (daily 12pm) and they also have some kind of castle guard parade, which is really nice to see.

After finished strolling around Prague castle, I continue my journey walking through the city to the old town of Prague and wencesclas square (where all the shopping store are). In old town you can see lots of people selling food, the typical Prague ham, and some other unique foods. You can also find lots of souvenir stores along the way.

Remember when I said that Prague is really cheap? yeah.. after spending almost 9hours walking around the city, I get back to the hostel to get something to eat, this time I choose to try one of the meal in the bar upstairs. I got myself a half roasted chicken for only 200czk, and with 25% discount for staying in the hostel, I only have to pay about 150czk, or equals to 6eur. Well I managed to translate my 100eur to 2300czk, and I have to pay 540czk for the hostel and 300czk for the castle, and also some for food and stuff. I left myself with 700czk and I have nothing left to do (I mean that required to spend some money). So Maria (the girl that hangout with me the other night) and I decided to go to a five story club (claimed to be the biggest club in central europe), and paid 180czk (I got 10%discount voucher so it's 162 for me) to get in. The club was okay, with 5 different kind of music in every floor, the hiphop area was packed, and lots of drunk and crazy people in the club (as always). So I ended my 2nd night in Prague being a bit tipsy and super tired from dancing the whole night.

Day 18 - Last Day in Prague
Wake up late, take a shower and ready to check out. This is my last day in Prague, I still have some time to walk around, seeing things I haven't get the chance to see, and try some of the good food in old town, and take some more pictures (even though my memory is almost full, so I have to delete some of the photos or videos *sigh*). So today, I'm going to the Lennon wall, just a wall full of graffiti with Lennon's picture on it.

I still have a few hours before I have to go to the airport, so I recharge a little bit energy by taking a nap on the lounge sofa in the hostel. After that I walk my way to the metro station, taking an extra long stairway to reach the metro, and my journey in Prague. This time I promised myself, that I will come back again to Prague, the city I fell in love with :)

Conclusion So, 3 days in Prague, was it enough? well it's definitely enough to explore but the beauty of Prague, makes you want more and more. 100euro is more than enough to spend in Prague (I ended up spending mine for nothing, like going to the club). Every tourist spot is within walking distance, so you don't really need to take metro whatsoever to get around (unless you're that lazy).

Dreams, Hope, & Reality - LPDP Scholarship (LGD and Interview)

The next step after the administration process is Leaderless Group Discussion and interview. The process usually take 2 days, depends on your luck, some people finish it in 1 day. A day before the said schedule on their timeline, you will receive an email with details about the venue and which group are you in. All participant need to be there at 8 AM, my location was at STAN Student Center, Bintaro. Luckily my aunt lives in Bintaro, so I stayed over at her place which is 10 minutes away from the venue. Without further due, I will tell you about the process December 2nd I couldn't sleep the night before, I guess I was nervous. I woke up around 5ish, because we had to be there on 7.30. I left around 6.15, because I didn't want to be late. When I got there, the place is already crowded with hundreds of participant, I found an empty seat next to someone, I didn't really remember his name, we had a short conversation. There are lots of great people there, some of them are yo...

Living in Europe - Survival Guide (Part 1)

In this post I'll share information about what to do, what to bring, and what to have when you decided to become an Au Pair, or maybe when you decided to move to Netherlands for Travel, doesn't matter how you come here, I'm here to help you enjoy the most of it:   What to bring: Credit Card(s): Why? Well, you will need credit card to book plane ticket, hotel, etc. Make sure you have enough money on your bank account to pay your credit card. I use internet banking facility to pay my credit card bill. But if you don't have credit card, it should be fine, you can ask the hostfamily or maybe your friends to help you book the ticket. But for me it means less freedom, and sometimes they are too busy, and you'll miss the opportunity to get the cheap-promo ticket. It's your call :) Minimum amount of clothes: Why? Clothes here are cheaper than in your home country (at least for me, since I come from Indonesia), and you can get nice clothes and maybe branded stuff ...
