Summer Trip (Part IV - Napoli)

What? Naples??? Why would you want to go there? they said it's really dangerous there.. Oh well, I can take care of myself, and anywhere can be dangerous, even you can die when you sleep :p
So here I am in Napoli.. I took the first train from Pisa to Napoli, it was a really long 6 hours train trip, not to mention that the train in Italy is not on time, in addition to the 6 hours trip, the train stopped in the middle of nowhere for more than an hour, so we got there around 2ish instead of 1 as planned.

Day 6 - Finally Napoli
Napoli aka Naples (means new town), is the capital of Campania and the third largest municipality in Italy after Rome and Milan. Naples was the most bombed city during world war II. Despite it's bad reputation concerning the mafia, Naples has really a lot to offer, like Pompeii (The ruins of vesuvio mountain, we'll get there later), the gorgeous port, buildings, and not to mention the pizza. Yes, Pizza!!! Pizza is originally come from Napoli, my favorite dish in the world and now I'm here where it originally come from. Wouldn't miss it for the world :p
My cousin (Tias) married an Italian guy and lives in Napoli. When I arrived in Napoli she picked us up from the train station and take us to the (according to my opinion) best pizza joint ever. In Italy you don't order a pan of pizza and share it with your friends, but you order one pan just for you, so each people get one pan. It's not a personal pan, trust me, the pizza is huge and it's not that expensive (only around 7euro). I got myself a Margherita con Bufala (A simple pizza with cherry tomato, basil and buffalo mozzarella cheese). I choose this one because the Buffalo Cheese is also originally from Napoli, so it's like the authentic real Neapolitan Pizza. The pizza was so awesome, I think that's the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. After we stuffed with pizza, we went to get some espresso from the store nearby, it was so nice (Well after 5 days torturing ourselves with cheap food, we finally eat the real fulfilling and supper yummy pizza

After we finished our late lunch we continue our journey to the hostel. We stayed at Giovanni's Home, a really nice hostel close to Piazza cavour. It's actually like an apartment that changed into a hostel, so there's only 3 or 4 bedrooms with several bunk-beds in it. When we arrived Giovanni welcome us with his smile and a glass of nice cold water, the hostel is fully air-conditioned, which is perfect after a really hot walking in the summery air of Naples. We paid for 18.5/person/night. After checked in, Giovanni explain us about Naples, the history and what to visit and also the rules of the hostel. No drunk person may enter the hostel. We dropped our bag, take the keys and continue our journey. This time we're gonna explore Napoli, go to the port and just walking wherever our feet take us.

After tired exploring the city we went to Tias's house, her mother-in law already prepared some typical Italian summer dish for dinner. We had cold pasta, baby octopus, some cheese, bread, and salami. For dessert we have a plate full of typical italian dessert choices, my favorite is Baba, it doesn't look good, but it taste really nice, it's basically a cake dipped in rum. It's so tasteful

Day 7 - The Ruins of Pompeii
The city of Pompeii was an ancient Roman town-city near modern Naples in the Italian region of Campania, in the territory of the comune Pompei. Pompeii along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area, were mostly destroyed and buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. To get there you can take a train from Napoli it cost around 3.20euro (click here for details). I didn't travel backpacker style this time, because Tias picked us up and take us there with her car. So I don't really know how the train works (Sorry...). To enter the ruin site you have to pay 11 euro, but if you're EU citizen between 18-24 and school teacher you only have to pay half price (5.50euro). We spent almost the whole day in Pompeii, because it's so big, the view is stunning and you can even see some mummies there. You can also rent the audio guide for 6.50euro. But we didn't do that, so we just walk around according to map. Pompeii also has Colosseum, temples, city hall, and common bath, just like any other city :p
After tired of walking we stopped for a while and found our spot a little bit uphill under the tree where you can see the whole Pompeii.

We ended our journey in Napoli with sunset view and 1.5 meters pizza. Napoli is really interesting and has a lot to offer. We regretted that we didn't spend much time in Napoli, because we didn't know that Napoli is actually worth to visit other than Pompeii itself. That day I made a promise to myself, that I'll come back to Napoli again one day :)

Dreams, Hope, & Reality - LPDP Scholarship (LGD and Interview)

The next step after the administration process is Leaderless Group Discussion and interview. The process usually take 2 days, depends on your luck, some people finish it in 1 day. A day before the said schedule on their timeline, you will receive an email with details about the venue and which group are you in. All participant need to be there at 8 AM, my location was at STAN Student Center, Bintaro. Luckily my aunt lives in Bintaro, so I stayed over at her place which is 10 minutes away from the venue. Without further due, I will tell you about the process December 2nd I couldn't sleep the night before, I guess I was nervous. I woke up around 5ish, because we had to be there on 7.30. I left around 6.15, because I didn't want to be late. When I got there, the place is already crowded with hundreds of participant, I found an empty seat next to someone, I didn't really remember his name, we had a short conversation. There are lots of great people there, some of them are yo...

Living in Europe - Survival Guide (Part 1)

In this post I'll share information about what to do, what to bring, and what to have when you decided to become an Au Pair, or maybe when you decided to move to Netherlands for Travel, doesn't matter how you come here, I'm here to help you enjoy the most of it:   What to bring: Credit Card(s): Why? Well, you will need credit card to book plane ticket, hotel, etc. Make sure you have enough money on your bank account to pay your credit card. I use internet banking facility to pay my credit card bill. But if you don't have credit card, it should be fine, you can ask the hostfamily or maybe your friends to help you book the ticket. But for me it means less freedom, and sometimes they are too busy, and you'll miss the opportunity to get the cheap-promo ticket. It's your call :) Minimum amount of clothes: Why? Clothes here are cheaper than in your home country (at least for me, since I come from Indonesia), and you can get nice clothes and maybe branded stuff ...
