Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and the de facto capital of the European Union (EU). It is also the largest urban area in Belgium, comprising 19 municipalities, including the municipality of the City of Brussels, which is the de jure capital of Belgium, in addition to the seat of the French Community of Belgium and of the Flemish Community.

I went to Brussels a couple times, one of them is when I turned 25, it was a nice experience, spending your birthday with someone close, which is my bestfriend Ardhya. The first time I went to Brussels is with the girl I replaced, Monita. On that trip we combined Belgium and Luxembourg which I will tell you later on my next post. Now let me tell you about Brussels, what you can expect when you decide to visit Brussels.

Shopping Similar to Antwerp, Brussels also has varies of stores that you can't find in Netherlands like forever21 or any other brand, so it's actually a good place to go shopping.

Good Food Whether it's a typical belgian food like mussels with beer and french fries or asian food like noodles or just a delicious waffle. Brussels has a lot to offer, with a reasonable price as well.
I had both of this stuff for dinner and it cost me around 20 euro for 2 person (Includes drink), because they have a big portion so it's better if you order something and share it with your friends.

If you don't like european food you can just go to the china town, in one of the restaurant they have this huge portion of noodles for 9 Euro, it's enough for 2 person, or maybe even 3. It cost around 9 euro for the noodles, and around 6 for dimsum, so in total I spent 15 euro. I shared it with my friend so it's around 7.5 euro each person.
Don't forget to get some Belgian waffle while you're here. A waffle with topping will cost 2-4 euro. It depends on what you want as topping. And if you're budget traveler (just like me) you can just go to supermarket and buy some bread or whatever you want, it's cheaper. But I advised you to at least try one of the local food there, because it's really good

Getting Around to get around you can get a map in in Tourist information or just buy some for 1 or 2 euro at book store in train station. Tourist attraction in Brussels is within walking distant from Brussels Central Station, so you don't really need to pay for transportation. But if you want to go to Atomium or Mini Europe you need to take a train to Brussels Midi and take a metro 6 to  "Roi Baudouin" and get out at Heysel. You can buy one of the jump-card for 2 euro (single trip) or buy 24h card for 6.5 euro, you can buy it in BOOTIK, or KIOSK (check here for details)

Sight-Seeing Grand Palace one of the famous old buildings in Brussels, in that area you can also find lots of interesting museum like Museum of Natural Science, Royal Museum of the armed forces, etc. Nearby you can also find a statue of a lady lying down, people said if you touch it, you will come back to Brussels again, so make sure you touch that lady. and of course the manekkin pis, don't expect the famous statue to be big, it's sooo small, but next to Mannnekin Pis you can find a lot of waffle store, my favorite is Leonidas, with Chocolate-Strawberry topping.

Atomium and Mini-Europe is also interesting to be visited. To enter Mini-Europe you have to pay about 14.50 euro for adult (click here for details). Me and my friend Aya planned to travel around europe, but since we didn't get the time to do that we went to Mini-Europe, well if there's a movie called around the world in 180days, we managed to travel around Europe within a couple hours :p

Conclusion Brussels is quite interesting for a weekend getaway, and if you like smurf which originally from Belgium, they have a Smurf Museum close to the Central Station. Total cost to go to Brussels is around 100euro (Including hostel which is very expensive in Brussels, try couchsurfing). Train tickets cost around 22euro from Roosendaal to Brussels (assumed you have NS 40% discount and under 26 years old).

Banyuwangi.. (and a little bit of Surabaya)

It's been a while since the last time I updated this blog. This time I want to share about my trip to Banyuwangi , East Java. The Regency of Banyuwangi is located at the easternmost end of the Indonesian island of Java. It serves as a port between Java and the island of Bali. Banyuwangi is separated by Strait of Bali from Bali. Why Banyuwangi? I know it's not one of the main tourist destination, but apparently it has a lot to offer, i t is surrounded by mountains and forests to the west; by sea to the east and south, and not to mention cheaper accommodation compared to Bali. You can go to Banyuwangi using airplanes, or just like me go to Surabaya first and then drive around 5-6 hours to Banyuwangi. I used tour operator Amazing Banyuwangi for this trip, but apparently they are very unprofessional, they tricked us so we ended up had to pay more for the "All Inclusive Private" trip they offered on the website. Anyway long story short let me tell you about how gorgeous...

Summer Trip (Final Part - Prague I'm in Love)

Prague, the capital and largest city of Czech Republic. It's also the historical capital of Bohemian proper . Situated in the north-west of the country on the Vltava river, the city is home to about 1.3 million people, while its larger urban zone is estimated to have a population of nearly 2 million. The city has a temperate oceanic climate, with warm summers and chilly winters. Not much people know about Prague, that's why they questioned me why I would go to Prague all by myself, well after this post I'm sure you will love Prague as much as I do. Day 16 - Finally Prague After a sleepless night at Milan Airport, and a morning flight to Prague. I finally arrived in Prague, one of my favorite city in Europe.    Oh yeah, you don't have to change the currency (EUR to CZK) at the airport, you can just use the ATM, and take money from there (It's cheaper considering the fee they asked in airport). But since I didn't know it before I get a pretty good rate at Milan...
